Full Name: Edward Sillian
Base Class/Sub Class: Police Officer – Dog Section
Strengths: [/b]
Edward’s strengths lie in the bond he has formed with his dogs. He himself is not particularly strong or fast, indeed he only just passed the fitness exam to get into the police however he does have a supreme bond with his dogs meaning he can rely on them to do their utmost to protect and serve him. He is their pack leader and they fight for him and only him.
Other than this, he has a sly and unusual talent for acquiring the things he needs. This may be due to the fact he is particularly light fingered and would have no issue stripping the boots from a dying man. It may also be that because of the pack of dogs, he can travel quite easily and be forewarned of the presence of the zombies and in that case, can usually avoid them. He uses the animals to scout out buildings. How it is that he carries these things is unknown, is has been suggested that he has a small extra dimension stored in his pack but as of yet, nothing can be proved. (XD)
He has developed an unusual form of communication with the animals since the break down of society. He no longer simply relies on the commands he trained them to in the police. He has learned the body language of the animals and picked up on the fact that he could control them better if they could understand his. As a result he can be considered very odd by people, particularly when he is feeling a heightened emotion such as fear or anger where he may even growl softly to himself. Spending too much time with animals and not enough time with humans has weakened his already weak grasp on social acceptances.
Despite his career choice and general disposition he is not a stupid man but neither is he clever. He does not ponder the meanings of the world, instead relying on the instinctual cunning and sharp linear mind that makes him such a good survivor in this new world. No zombie so far has offered to spare him if he can argue the existence of God, so why should he need to.
People think him to be odd, and indeed he is but in such a way that he is still likeable. Despite his thieving characteristics, his general cowardly attitude and the fact that he would run away from any responsibility given to him, regardless of the bonuses to himself, he is quite likeable. People find him easy to talk to and all around, quite a nice person for being a criminal police thief.
Also, he has a particularly loud and high pitched whistle which the deteriorating ears of zombies aren’t sensitive to. Apart from this he has very good hearing but his eyesight isn’t wonderful.
Weaknesses:
Edward is a kleptomaniac. He will take anything not nailed down, the things that are nailed down, well he’ll take the nails as well, just for good measure. His fingers are so light they are exempt from gravity and seem to have a magnetic attraction to anything either shiny or pointy. Such as it is, most shiny or pointy things have long ago been taken by other survivors but anything left lying around will soon find itself in a new home in his backpack.
People find him odd to be around, he moves sharply in a series of twitches and jerks which make him always appear to be edgy. It makes people nervous around him, although there is significant reason to, if he doesn’t know a person and they haven’t managed to scare him enough that he’ll hold off, he’ll have the contents of their pockets in his pack and the clips out their guns.
He isn’t particularly strong, or fast. Although he is thin, it’s more to do with being bony than being healthy. His normal diet consists of junk food consumed at around about 3 in the morning when watching crappy TV, or it was until this happened. Now it’s whatever he can scavenge from the nearest pack that isn’t his.
Despite being quite sly and quick witted he is not a great thinker. He can spot the flaws in an argument as a natural cynisist but doesn’t really take an interest in matters of higher thinking. The afterlife isn’t something he’s ever considered. With this it isolated him from a lot of conversation and from other people. He’s willing to accept the beliefs of the person he considers to be most powerful, in an aim to protect himself.
A natural coward, if he can avoid a fight, he does and will regularly simply give up in the face of someone stronger. He will seek the nearest powerful person to serve in an attempt to keep himself safe, and has more than once developed an odd sense of loyalty, but those who are cruel and treat him badly may find their throats ripped out by a pack of dogs and the boots whipped off their feet before they are even cold.
Another point is that Eddie is a serious drinker, and his light frame doesn’t help in this matter. He very quickly gets drunk and stays like that for a long time. His state of drunkenness simply seems to allow him to slide easily from vertical to horizontal in a matter of minutes.
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Physical Description:
Haggard, perhaps the word that describes Edward best. A mop of shaggy brown hair tufts from the top of his head, standing in all directions from where he runs his hands through it, it remains unclipped and for the most part, unstyled. The only effort he makes to control it is to push it out of his eyes when he is particularly stressed.
Thick brown brows, a few shades darker than his hair top narrow and calculating eyes which glance rapidly, flicking from one possible target to another. The irises themselves are yet again, a rather typical murky brown seen so often it becomes entirely unnoticeable. Apart from this his eyes are perhaps one of the areas that most show his exhaustion, these days he always has dark shadows under his eyes, slight bags starting to show. The whites of his eyes aren’t, they are yellow, from chain smoking and lack of sleep.
His features other than this are strong and straight, they could be called attractive if it wasn’t for the permanent expression of mistrust and the look of nervous fear on his face. His nose is long and straight, he has a strong chin and a rather overly defined Adam’s apple.
Standing at 5’11 he isn’t particularly tall, and his lack of muscle or bulk makes him even smaller. He walks with his head cast down, watching his feet and making sure to keep out of eye contact. He learned from his dogs that eye contact is a challenge. He walks as a dog with it’s tail between it’s legs, shoulders down in an expression of subservience. Despite this, the pack of dogs he keeps follows him and accepts him unanimously as a leader although they have left their fair share of marks testing this.
His forearms are covered with a network of scars, slashes and puncture wounds from claw and tooth. Training dogs to attack was a hard job, and teaching them that he is pack leader is even harder. Every day he must prove his dominance and should he let it slip, one may push to far and he’ll end up with another network of bites. These scars aren’t only on his forearms, he has a bite on his throat, the punctures were nearly fatal. Packs of dogs that roam the streets target the alpha, and as the alpha he was the first to take a wound. From the same dog he has slashes down his front, scars down his chest from the claws where he pinned the beast down.
He has bite marks on his left shoulder and a small groove on the outside of his left leg where he was caught thieving, ran and someone shot after him. His pale skin is mottled with scars under his clothing. His clothing, well initially he wore his police uniform as it offered the most protection but as time went on and police became few and far between, he took to wearing a rather different kind of clothing. He has an obsession with Nazi memorabilia and will collect, steal and buy anything he can get hold of. Although he doesn’t always wear this sort of thing – people don’t approve – he tends to wear thick clothing resistant to bites as well as a heavy worn pack stolen from his days in the army. The faded khaki pack is never far from his side and always has a ready supply of water and as much dog food as he can carry, although he isn’t the only one to carry a pack.
Personality:
Eddie is seen as odd, but despite being odd people find him a rather likeable person. Anyone stronger than him he flatters and the weaker he tends to band together with, anything to protect himself. He is well known as a thief able to lay his hands on nearly anything, he’s always informed on the people around him and is quick and quiet enough to keep out of the way of anything big. He volunteers for nothing, he is a typical cynic and is well aware of the fact that he will need to pay a price. Nothing in this world is free.
He is very self involved, avoiding most other people if he can. He would be quite content to smoke and drink his way into oblivion, only going out to get food, but to survive here you need to be in a group.
He is usually quite good conversation and normally in a good mood, he gets on well with almost anyone, as long as they don’t take his sticky fingers too personally. He doesn’t normally steal from friends, not very often at least and should they ask they can have it back.
Likes:
Eddie is particularly fond of nice clouds and pretty skies. The contrast of light on the dark town scape amuses him. He also likes the company of his dogs and a safe and warm place to stay at night. He is fond of reading light hearted novels and some more graphic books which probably would be displayed in a public library. Anything free or hanging about without an owner tends to find itself in his possession very quickly.
Dislikes:
Being in a weak place and not having something bigger to hide behind. Obviously he hates zombies and he isn’t too fond of firearms, only having basic training and lacking any real accuracy. The only gun he is really proficient with is the small pistol he keeps hidden on the side of his pack. He hates being caught outside without his dogs and doesn’t like adventuring himself.
History:
A normal British boy born to normal parents, Eddie was well loved. He had a perfectly normal upbringing, staying at home until he was 16 when he went to the Army college in the south of England. He wasn’t particularly good at school, nor was he really well liked. People tended to ignore him for the most part, keeping out of his way. He was the boy that stood next to the biggest one in school and laughed meanly at the others. All about self defence.
When he went to the army, it didn’t really change. He spent his time flattering the older and tougher boys and avoiding all of the others. He quickly got into a group where he was bullied by the leaders, but no one else dared go near. He was their property. But as they excelled through the ranks he found himself still a foot soldier and with no one to cover his back.
He ran. He couldn’t hack it on his own and he ran. At the age of 23 he got out of the country, taking the first flight he could catch with his wages. It took him to America. He settled easily into life there, slipping into the city quite quietly without hassle and signing onto the police force.
He didn’t do all so well in his entrance exams and there were few positions open to him, one of them happened to be with the Dog Section which, with his like of animals he opted for. He was initially trained to handle dogs, but as his time advanced, he was given dogs of his own to train. First he was given an Alsatian, a large and heavy pup at the time called Jones. He was quick to learn and with Eddie it didn’t take him long to form a real bond. When it was time to give the dog back to the force, the animal became depressed and started to pine. He became unusable without Eddie and so, he was brought forward into the action to help out.
His second dog was a Rottweiler, a huge female called Malificent. She was rather more slow to take to him than Jonesy but became particularly defensive over him, reluctant to let anyone near her master. The two dogs worked together as pack animals would and Eddie became the alpha and the more time he spent with them, the more secure that relationship became.
He was an officer for 6 years, only acquiring the dogs in his fourth year. Malificent is 2 years old and Jones is 3. After the outbreak, he stole the dogs and ran from the police force, keeping as out of the way as possible, training his dogs no longer to incapacitate but to mutilate, rip off legs, arms and bite off heads. More than that, he taught them to sniff out the zombies and to signal him in silence that there was danger. His bond grew and grew and he is now inseparable from the animals.
